Does anyone know of any daycares that are going to take in older kids this year given the school closures? We are on Cap Hill if that helps -- but I think willing to travel within reason. |
I know that some aftercare providers plan to open for their traditional hours DL or not. |
I think Bambini on Mass Ave NW is going to offer a small cohort of older kids spots, but you may need to be an alum to get offered a spot. Were your kids in daycare when they were younger? Have you contacted that daycare to see what they are offering? You might also reach out to other parents with a kid the same age before contacting a daycare. They might be more inclined to offer something if you can guarantee 3-4 kids up front. |
A home day care might be more flexible. What ages are your kids? Sometimes daycares aren’t licensed to take older kids.

I believe Busy Bees is going to operate out of Hill Centwr. |
Most good home daycares don't take older kids because it messes up their schedules and activities, plus older kids are going to be bored. |
I’m sending my almost 5 year old to a home day care with the toddler. |
YMCA sent out a survey asking about projected school age childcare needs |
Will DCPS be running its after school program? |
They haven't announced it yet. They said on the town hall this week that they would make an announcement some time in the next few weeks. I know that the DL v. Hybrid question is waiting on some info and advice from DC Health. I would bet aftercare is hung up in that same process. |
NP. I really don't see how DCPS is going to start with anything but DL given where the data is trending. |
I got an email earlier this week postponing aftercare registration, which was supposed to begin on the 27th I think. It just said registration is delayed given the mayors announcement to delay school plans until the 31st and thanks for your patience. |
