Experiences with MC around 6 weeks

Anonymous
Would anyone be willing to share what it was like for you to have a miscarriage around 6 or 7 weeks of pregnancy? I am nearly 100% sure I am having an MC, but I’m holding out a tiny sliver of hope that it is something like an SCH instead. I can’t get into the OB until Friday. I started having a little bit of spotting right at the 6 week mark, and it became like a heavy period toward the end of the sixth week. I only felt mild cramps and passed one small clot, but the rest was just blood. The heavy bleeding lasted about 2 days and seems to have lightened up this morning. Not sure if it’s related, but I also noticed my resting heart rate on my Fitbit had increased several points when I first found out I was pregnant and has now decreased almost to pre-pregnancy levels. I guess I’m just wondering what to expect since I thought a miscarriage would involve more pain and passing of tissue, but it seems almost impossible that things could still be OK with the pregnancy with the amount of bleeding I have experienced.

I'm so sorry OP. I would say that it's most likely you're having a miscarriage, and at 6 weeks, I wouldn't expect pain much beyond a regular period.

However - I will say that when my mom was pregnant with my brother, she had this happen several times, and was still pregnant. He's 40 now with three kids of his own, and she still can't believe it with how much she bled during pregnancy. So, you never know.

Hi OP, so sorry you're experiencing this. Mine was a little earlier but I had an early miscarriage at 5 weeks recently and it was very similar to what you described. I was surprised by how not painful it was and the bleeding was actually lighter than a normal period for me in some ways. I've heard it really just depends on the person and the miscarriage itself, though earlier ones are more likely to not be too painful. Hope you feel better soon, and if it's any comfort - mine was two months ago and we are in the two week wait after trying again for the first time and I am already having symptoms so very hopeful!

My 9 week MC was a lot more tissue and clump than my 6 week one. Both times of blood like a period. Not gushing but filling a pad. If I had not known I was pregnant, my 6 week MC would have just felt like a really heavy period.

I am sorry if that is what you are experiencing.

My 6 week MC was very painful, and lasted longer than 2 days. I'm sorry for what you maybe be experiencing. Were you able to schedule an appointment with your OB?

I'm sorry to hear that, OP. I've had 3 MC between 5-6 weeks. At 6 weeks it's like a clotty, heavy period, but nothing like labor pains or significant pregnancy tissue. A few days of heavy bleeding with some cramps, then spotting for a few more days after. Symptoms (sore breasts, nausea, etc.) fade away after the heavy bleeding days.

I’m sorry to hear OP, I can’t provide any insights into to miscarriage but your heart rate increasing when pregnant is normal, it should remain elevated for a while. That being said, it will still fluctuate a lot depending on your stress, level of activity and general fitness, so I wouldn’t read much into it going back to almost pre-pregnancy levels.

Were you tracking your BBT? Has it gone back down or does it remain elevated? This might also be something to be on the lookout for.

OP here. I really appreciate all the responses, and I am sorry for all of your losses. It is at least somewhat reassuring that The process may not become very painful at this stage.

I had one at 6 weeks with my first pregnancy and it was very similar to what you’re describing. No pain, just lots of spotting turned regular period bleeding. It stopped within a few days and then started up again a week later but it was never painful or particularly unusual looking compared to a normal period. I’m sorry you’re going through this! Looking back it’s hard to believe I only knew I was pregnant for about 2 weeks—it felt like forever and such a shock to mc.

So sorry OP. I had a MC around 6 weeks that was exactly like this. I was shocked when I started bleeding, because I had absolutely no cramping. Have you taken another pregnancy test since the bleeding started? My hgc nosedived, and was only 7 when I got bloodwork done. This was only a day or two after the light spotting started.

Same as everyone above, OP. No pain but bleeding and a free clots ☹️ I was lucky to get pregnancy and have a successful pregnancy about seven months later. I hope things work out for you.

I’m sorry you are going through this.
I had one at about 5 weeks which was like a period.

It could be a hemorrhage which doesn’t necessarily mean a miscarriage. Sometimes they happen and the baby is still okay but only an ultrasound can confirm. If that’s the case you’ll probably have to be extra careful about no strenuous exercise, Etc.

Sorry you’re experiencing this. I had one at 6 weeks and it was basically a very, very heavy period. I passed one LARGE clot and then bled for maybe 4-5 days afterwards. My doctor made me come in to test my HCG and by the time I made it in (maybe 2 days after miscarriage), my numbers were basically back to zero.

They did say that since the miscarriage occurred SO early on in the pregnancy, I didn’t have to wait at all and we could continue trying.

My daughter was conceived 2 months later.

Mines was at 6 weeks a day away from 7, and that ish hurt like hell. I was doing round the clock medicine, a heating pad, rolled up in a ball for about 2 days. I did feel a clump of some sort come out and after is when the pain set in.
