| Things seem to be spiraling out of control. My DC now wants to do a gap year. DCUM mom that I am, I see this as an opportunity. Fewer applicants means a better chance for you to land your stretch school. What say you Peanut Gallery? DC or Mom Knows Best? |
| Gap year doing what? Can’t travel. Can’t get any job except homeschooling little kids. |
Gap year = stay'in alive. Better than paying thousands for an online education. |
| I think it would be a good year to do what you can do online, and take some online college courses for credit etc. as well. |
There will be a ton of online opportunities for college level courses, internships and the like. The question is whether burning a year of your life for such nonsense is worth it. Hard to see how 2021 graduates will have anything close to a true college experience. I say cut your losses. Go gap year even if it means just lying low in your parent's basement. Wait until post-Trump and this Covid madness dissipates. |
| It would make sense if you *wanted* to go to a Covid-free place like New Zealand --- But, before you book flights, wait 5 months to see if these vaccines pan out. |
Sounds like warren buffet’s strategy. He hasn’t “lost” much - but he lost out on incredible gain. In hindsight, gap year = lost year, lost opportunities. |
| I’m confused. Wouldn’t this be for Class of 2020, i.e., incoming college freshman? Won’t college life be more or less back to normal in a year for Class of 2021? |
Listen to Fauci not Cheeto Head. |
Agree. |
| Class of 2021 rising seniors can’t even visit prospective colleges... |
| no |
Class of 2021 would be this year's college seniors. The idea being for them to take a year off of school, return next year and graduate in 2022? |
|
Oh, no, my mistake -- you said "land your stretch school"
Never mind. Why do you think there will be fewer college applicants this year though? |
They could work at a grocery store or restaurant full time. Or be a CNA. I’m not saying that’s wise but there are options. |
