How to introduce a new nanny/tutor to the household to help with Distance Learning

Hi All

Those that are getting a tutor or a new nanny, how are you introducing the tutor to the family? I mean, in these COVID days, do you ask your tutor to give you proof of a negative COVID test? Some of my neighbors are doing temperature checks everyday, but that is just wayy too much for me.

Any suggestions? Thanks

We have a nanny now, for the summer. When we hired her we both discussed our activities and our distancing practices. I thought it was a good sign she asked how safe we were being. We included paid sick leave in her comp package and emphasized we did not want her to come if sick: we would still pay if she called out sick.

But you can't control other people. She's on vacation next week at the beach and there's nothing I can do to prevent her doing something I feel is risky. We either hired somebody with good judgement, or we didn't. I don't think testing or temping makes sense.

FWIW my coworker is married to a nanny who's caring for a brand new infant and they are both being extremely careful. I think there are many conscientious people out there.

Nanny here. I wouldn’t object to a daily temperature check or a negative COVID test (as long as you were willing to pay for the test). But as PP said, at some point you really need to just accept that you can’t control everything and hope that she was honest in your discussions about what safety precautions you are both taking.
