Anyone interested in supplemental tutoring/teaching for elementary level during the 2020 DL period?

Anonymous
Hi all, curious to hear if anyone is considering hiring an in-person tutor or teacher for regular supplemental learning while MCPS is distance learning, or on "off days" that kids may be at home and not in school. If so, how would you see this going or what are you planning? Are there tutors or teachers out there who feel safe in this circumstance, provided that risk mitigation guidelines are observed as much as possible?

had a tutor on the side during the Spring DL. She saved my life. I could not keep up with the DL crap. This time am hiring a tutoring service plus private tutor on side. The investment will save both my child and I mental sanity.

Hope you'll also hire a English tutor for yourself.

It’s very stressful for both children and parents doing DL.
there’s no reason to look down on others. At least the parent
is being clear they need help.

Np here-- this comment is sad. The means to do so much but the heart to belittle.

Try Nextdoor.
It is amazing a MCPS teacher offered to tutor a 2nd grader. She must have a lots of extra time since they refused to teach her OWN students.

We had a retired Elementary teacher form Ashburton tutor for 2 days a week come to our house and pick the kids up from the bus before COVID focusing on math and reading fundamentals (2 kids elementary). Post COVID we made it two full days and have kept it going during the summer. We are in talks to make it 3 in the fall and opt into distance learning for the full year. It will be safer if not boring for the kids. If the general kids who go back stay safe and vaccines/treatments then we will send the kids back. Distance learning might even empower us to let the kids spend the fall in Rehoboth since we are keeping them away this summer.

The distance learning is pretty good but not great, the whole intent is to weather this storm and not suffer a back slide for when ever the world resume, I would strongly recommend people consider erring on the side of caution with the kids but families will do what they need to do.

Privilege at it’s best. Use your wealth to make sure only you or your selfish spawns get ahead in the world. Gotta love America!

Is your inability to help your children a positive? What would you have people do? Pretend to be helpless like you and blow our money on less important stuff than kids?

Or she’s taking a leave of absence.

Or she is planning to tutor after school hours.

Or she’s like the woman who told me that she was a teacher in Montgomery County and then when I looked her up in the directly could not be found so whoever employs her, it isn’t MCPS.
