Switching to an accredited online MS/HS?

Anonymous
Several people I know have decided to pull their kids from the local public school system and place them in an accredited online program for the full academic year. Is anyone here considering this? I'd love to hear what shaped your thinking, as well as any recommendations for programs.

Fwiw I have a MS and a HS kid, neither one learned much of anything since MCPS closed schools in March. We have been supplementing with tutoring plus online resources like Khan Academy just to keep them marginally educated. But I wonder if they would be better off with a structured remote curriculum, since I see no signs that MCPS has its act together.

There is George Washington Online High School (private). There is Virtual Virginia in Va. I’m pretty sure you could piece together a whole curriculum from the Well Trained Mind online courses. I’m sure someone will recommend Stanford OHS, but that’s not an option 2 months before school starts.

My kids are ES and MS so I can’t explain this well. I suggest you post in the homeschool forum. I know that there is a list of accredited programs that MD recognizes. But there is an issue with HS. Each school determines if a course will be recognized for credit. It’s not a universal standard. So what is accepted at Einstein might not be accepted by Blair.
