ODP post DA

With the demise of the DA, will ODP become more popular again?

God, I can just see the ODP directors and coaches licking their lips at the $50 tryout fees and $500 per player per event they collect...

ODP was done when ECNL launched. Maybe it is relevant for girls who don't have access to ECNL it was valuable pre-ECNL.

On the boys' side, the top of the game will still be the MLS league (ex-DA), and they won't play ODP. Maybe ECNL and EDP will make some inroads in gaining top players (like in the DC area with DCU reportedly only having U-15 and U-17 teams), but I think that then it will be ECNL and EDP events that serve as showcase opportunities, NOT ODP.

On the girls' side, ECNL is too well-established for ODP to become relevant again.

Is ODP even going to survive the next year? All the events are away trips with packed buses and hotels. Who is going to sign up for that right now?

Based on last year, probably about half of SYC...?

ODP is not worth it. At all.

I'll disagree and here is why
I have used ODP early in the upcoming season as a supplemental training opportunity for my kid. The cost is low for District and for the follow up State as well. Once offered the State position we discontinue as I dont see the point in going on. If you see the program as add on training with new coaches and techniques and your kid enjoys it then it has value. If you are using it to open up doors and get you into a Div 1 college program you certainly have better options available.

And it wasn't done collectively, we were all surprised so many SYC players made it. lol.

For my son the goal was Portugal, but we all know what happened with that...
He actually enjoyed OPD and became friends with a lot of great kids form other clubs. He loved the away camps and trips. He played and traveled with one kid that's in the DC National Team now. Coaches were great as well. Great experience, nothing to complain about!

I love ODP posts. They are only time you will ever see ECNL and DA/GA folks agree on something. Any other time they are too busy bashing each other’s leagues

Hey, power to ya! And sorry about Portugal...had you already paid your ~$3500? If so, did they give any back?

Does anyone know how ODP coaches’ pay is structured?

Districts- meh, i guess if you are looking for training outside of your own club. Districts were a joke though.

I feel like its a total money grab. Still not run with efficiency.

it's a great idea but yes you're absolutely correct that there's ZERO efficiency
