| If you are withdrawing your child from school due to MCPS DL, why are you doing it and where will you go? My son has ADD and failed miserably with DL last Spring. It was painful with lots kept tears - bottom line like most kids and probably to an even greater extent due to distraction issues and lack of ability to focus, he learns better in person. So we are looking at privates or parochial schools that are offering in person learning out of the gate come September. I’ve talked to my kid about this and he understands and is open to the experience. Anyone else actually withdrawing and if so why are you doing and where are you considering going? Thanks. |
| I have been searching as well. But I don’t see any will fully open in fall at all. |
That's the thing, I don't see how most privates are going to be able to accommodate FTF for five days a week either. I would think their online learning would be more rigorous and emphasize student accountability. Who was happy with their private school's approach to distance learning last year? If you were, can you list the name of the school in the thread. |
This is my challenge as well. There's a waiting list for late applications for some of the schools we inquired. |
This is the MD Public Schools forum. You might have better luck in the Private School forum. I’m sure there are multiple threads on this topic. |

We are. We have several friends with children in private school (independent, parochial, Catholic ) and the comparison of what their kids were doing in DL vs MCPS was stark. Following a regular school schedule beginning in the mornings with synchronized live learning, grading, accountability, order, and planning. This pandemic did nothing to help the downward spiral of MCPS. Merely exposed it. We will have to make sacrifices to do this, but investing in our children is paramount. Now a fight is erupting between teacher and the administration. It’s never about the kids.

| We have been in the system 15 years and are leaving. Distance learning was not learning. Just posted assignments. 1 of 7 teachers had a live zoom twice a week. One. Lack of accountability, structure, live learning took their tool, on all of us. The kids just aren’t getting engaged. One of our great teachers from last year shared that since March half of the kids had not signed in once or turned in an assignment. Half. This isn’t working. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but we are leaving. At least they get our taxes, so we are still contributing in a way. |
Landon and NCS has rigorous DL. Our friends also were very pleased with St. Andrews. |

| I'm in FCPS, but we have applied to a private school for my DD who is dyslexic and has ADD. I'm hoping that a solid year will help her close the gap. If we stay at FCPS, we will need tutors to get her through the year and actually teach her. |
| If you are serious about this, forget wasting time on this thread. Just start calling schools to see if they spots. |
My mistake. Thank you. |
Thanks. I’d like to leave it here but will check for other threads there as well. |
Same thing for us. |
