When did you start letting your child play alone in their room (outside of crib)

FTM here - at what age did was your child able to amuse themselves alone/you felt safe leaving them in baby-proofed room?

15 months? Our house is pretty baby proofed, especially our family room and I will leave my 17 month old alone for a few minutes while I change the baby's diaper. I will probably get flamed for that! Truly I have no idea what the right answer is so I'm curious to hear other people's opinions.

Probably about the same here - Especially if I see they’re occupied with a toy or something, few mins at a time is fine.

Just have to watch out for when things go quiet in their room, its usually never good lol.

From the beginning, with lots of baby proofing. Around 9 mos. we used a large playpen / gate a lot.

But he’s 4 and still doesn’t play in his room... it’s way upstairs away from the action and we don’t keep toys there, just books & stuffed animals.

Sometime before 2 - I don't remember.

Around 18 months, both of my kids were more comfortable and occupied and able to be left in the living room while I would cook dinner or whatever. My older child just turned 4 and recently started asking to play in her room alone. She has toys in there that aren't appropriate for her little sister that she normally plays with during quiet time (no longer napping) and sometimes she wants to go by herself at other times.

Generally she will play in the basement with other kids her age or a little older without adults - well at least before COVID she did. . .
