Infertility Support and Discussion
| I'm in a search of a cookbook or guide to foods that would be beneficial right before and during an IVF cycle. My search on amazon turns up books on general fertility diets, but nothing geared specifically to those undergoing IVF. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

I couldn't find one either so I ended up doing a few phone consultations with Pulling Down the Moon's fertility nutritionists based out of Chicago.
They did an exhaustive intake, gave great feedback, and sent me a ton of materials and recipe ideas. I recommend it. They can tailor your needs to your fertility issue (PCOS, low ovarian reserve, etc...). All their recommendation were research-based. She couldn't recommend a book for me and critiqued the ones that I had about PCOS diets because anything that's been in print (my book was 2004) is soon out of date based on all the research coming out. oh, and they were able to get my husband on the phone and get him to talk about his diet too, loved it, finally convinced him that he can't go to McDonald's!!! Good luck. |
| Poster 23:15...did Pulling Down the Moon mention any foods/beverages you should avoid before under going IVF...besides the usual coffee, alcohol, high fat, high sugar, processed foods etc? Any foods mentioned that you wouldn't normally think of that are extremely beneficial to IVF cycles? TIA! |

I have heard, (though not from any 'real' source...) especially for ladies who respond well to stims and may have a risk for OHSS, that a higher protein diet and sports drinks might be helpful to help combat or ease the issues related to OHSS. When I definitely was dealing with OHSS, my RE also suggested drinking sports drinks.

Eat a balanced healthy diet, no caffiene or alcohol. Don't over think it!

| I cut back on alcohol and caffeine (though I wasn't drinking much of either anyway) but did not eliminate them entirely, and got pregnant on my second fresh IVF cycle. I don't think I would have survived a cycle without an occasional glass of wine. I asked about both and my doctor (SGF) said they are fine in moderation. Gatorade G2 (the low-cal version) does wonders for bloating, especially around retrieval time. |

I've cycled at two well-known clinics (one in DC and one not) and both said NO caffeine and alcohol.
There has always been that rumor about pineapple. Not sure if it has any scientific proof though! |
