Seeking reviews/experiences about Communikids - Wisconsin Ave Baptist Church location

We are new to the area and DS was accepted into Communikids Wisconsin Ave Baptist Church location for Pre-K 3. Anyone have experience with this school?

I've heard amazing things from friends with kids there.

Don't have experience with that location, but my child is in the UDC location and I have nothing but good things to say. The administration is responsive and the teachers are great and very warm and caring.

Our son also got a spot on the free PreK-3 at Wisconsin Ave Baptist Church. Can you please tell us how many classes do they have in prek-3 and do they have a playground? the teachers have been many years working there or there is a lot of turnover, is the location temporary or they will stay there in the long term (I don’t know if they are there until the cathedral commons location will be open). Is there a good community atmosphere with the other parents? Is parent-teacher communication through and app or email? I believe the covid will probably change their protocols this upcoming year .. thanks a million!

Can you please tell us how many classes do they have in prek-3 and do they have a playground? Last year there were two classrooms of 16 kids with 2 teachers each, plus a floater. This will presumably be different. There is a playground right on the property, which is large and has lots of open space. The building is old and not super fancy, but the classrooms themselves are large, very bright, clean, and have lots of fun activities.

the teachers have been many years working there or there is a lot of turnover, is the location temporary or they will stay there in the long term (I don’t know if they are there until the cathedral commons location will be open). My daughter had one new teacher (who was wonderful) and one teacher who had been there many many years (also great).

Is there a good community atmosphere with the other parents? There were lots of fun events and a nice parent group that planned events - this will also probably have to be different.

Thanks a lot! You have been super helpful! It seems a good place and better than the tenleytown location where they don’t have any playground. We don’t care if the place is not too fancy as long as it is clean and passes all sanitation inspections, lead testing etc.
Lastly, is the teaching 100% in Spanish or they alternate with English? Is your daughter bilingual for real now? Are your/your partner Spanish speaking parents?

The teaching is pretty much 100% in Spanish, though the obviously allow the children to speak in English. I would say her Spanish was really coming on in March right before we shut down, which is a total bummer. I took Spanish in high school so was able to help with the distance learning well enough, but certainly not a Spanish speaker in any real sense. My husband doesn’t know any Spanish at all.

I just finished a virtual open house with Communikids and I like it a lot. The director seems very friendly and close and she explained everything in detail. However I want to ask you if the classrooms at the church were natural lighting via windows in the main floor building or in a basement without windows, we are looking for an open space and with air circulation especially with the Covid.

At least last year the classrooms were on the second floor and had windows; but not sure if the windows open. The bathrooms were downstairs in the basement, as was the “gym”.

Did Communikids say anything about their plans to reopen in person in the Fall? I know they are doing camp now, so I assume that's a good sign.

They said they are going to open in September, full in person or on a hybrid option depending on the decision taken by the DCPS

hi all, my daughter just got offered a spot at communikids Prek3 at this location, I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with how they did this with COVID. Did they follow the DCPS learning model or were they more independent?

They were hybrid, with the students in person M/W or T/Th and alternate fridays, due to the cap on in person class size. We never had a positive case or shutdown in my daughters class. I believe only one class was out one day for a possible exposure, that resulted in a negative test. They have a check in questionnaire and tempsture check each day, and told us all the teachers received their vaccines (though of course there could be teacher turnover). We were very happy with how they handled it!!
