I know this sounds like a crazy-UMC-pricey thing to do, but a friend whose DD deferred a year (not covid related and not this coming year) found a consultant who helps families line up gap year jobs and experiences efficiently. The DD took 8- and 10-week residential courses at two different places, worked for a nonprofit (paid job) and did some other things the consultant helped locate. The family was assembling a gap year program really quickly for a variety of reasons and said using a consultant was actually worth the money or they'd have missed deadlines on some of the programs the DD ended up loving and getting a lot out of. Don't know consultant's name but just noting these people are out there. It can be tough sometimes to dig around online and it can be hard to tell what's a good program and what's a junky money-grab so I would probably get outside help if I were in that situation, seeking programs.
