Smallish SUV - Thinking ahead

Anonymous
I currently am leasing an Audi Q5 and my lease is up in the spring. I have been working from home since COVID and anticipate that, even when things return to some semblance of normal, I will work from home at least a few days/week. I still need an SUV (live in a cold climate with lots of snow) but I would like a less expensive vehicle. I tend to like change every few years so will probably lease again but am not opposed to buying. I have found that I like to have a certain “luxury” features but am guessing I can find most of them in a less expensive vehicle. I love having a heated steering wheel, CarPlay (although I am guessing that is pretty standard) and a kick sensor for the liftgate. I do not need or want a third row but also want something a little bigger than a sub-compact. What do you recommend?

Toyota RAV4 (regular or hybrid) with either the XSE or Limited trim lines. They are really nice and packed with high end features. AWD standard. The XSE has tons of vehicle surface drive settings (sand, snow, mud, gravel, ice, etc).

Will run you $30-38K

Not an SUV but ticks other boxes including handling in bad weather. Subaru Outback. On my third one and I love it.

Why don’t you choose something that won’t kill the planet?

Ok. Like a bike? What is your suggestion?

We got our daughter a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek and my son liked it, but wanted something bigger, so he just got a 2020 Outback Touring. It a really nice car and has a ton of good features and touches including the heated steering wheel and apple play the OP wants. I have been surprised at how much value you get with Subaru.

Forgot to add, you put your elbow, hand, arm, whatever over the logo on the liftgate and it opens. Not a kick open feature, but still very handy.

Bikes kill the planet.

You need to walk, wearing straw sandals.

AWD is not standard in the Rav4. Plenty of FWD ones on the road.
