First trip with hubby after having the kids -where to go?

Anonymous
DH and I are taking a long weekend in May - my parents are watching our 3 year old and 1 year old for us!!!!! YAY. We thought about doing Jazz Fest, but all of the flights are super expensive and good hotels in the French Quarter already booked. Where to go in early May? We've been to Vegas, but could go again. Any thoughts? Montreal sounds cool, so does Napa. Looking for cool ideas for a romantic, fun getaway sans kiddos

Since you have a limited amount of time, why not minimize travel time? There are some great B&Bs around. Or a really quick flight to a fun city like NY, Chicago, Miami...

MONTREAL! Hands down, one of the coolest most romantic cities in North America.

Good food.
Good music.
Nice people.
Pretty architecture.
Good shopping.

I've never been, but what about Key West?

OR....I LOVE LOVE LOVE Savannah. That would be perfect. You can drive out to Tybee Island for a day if you want some beach time (it's like 40 minutes away, I think). Savannah is so beautiful - go to Forsyth Park for a picnic, walk around all the squares, have some great food. I'm not usually a big "tours" person but I do recommend the Ghost Tour there.

And you and your hubby should read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil before you go. You can watch the movie, too, but it's not that great - read the book first.

There's a B&B there called, literally, Savannah Bed and Breakfast. Great location. Rent one of the little carriage houses in the back. I seem to remember it was pretty affordable.

Try the Bahamas. Nassau is a quick plane ride and the beaches are great.

What do you miss most about life pre-kids?

I was at the Greenbriar 8 years ago, so things may have changed since then, but I thought the rooms were in need of updating, the food was average and the dress code requirements were just over the top (they have a dress code for the lobby). I have also been to the Homestead and liked it better - it was a bit less formal.

I was there about 5 years ago and would have to agree. We went for a work thing so the rooms were paid for, but I remember thinking there was no way I would spend the money to actually pay for a room. It is also quite far 4+ hours I think. I second the recommendation for Bermuda - we went there pre-kids and I would go back in a hearbeat.

Disagree. Lovvvvvve the Greenbrier. You have to rent one of their cottages--it has a front room with fireplace and then a backroom..The rooms have been recently updated but still have the "Dorothy Draper" flavor. They have also recently added a steakhouse and the restaurant at the golf club is great. I don't like the formal dining room though..too formal for me. The spa is great and the golf is awesome..Ditto hiking trails. It is not for everyone though. The pace is slow and takes you back in time with things like afternoon tea etc. I love it..may see you there in early May since we are planning to go then
