Which schools in the area have French immersion programs? Do any of them have assistants or paraprofessionals and do they also speak French?

Kent Gardens elementary in McLean

MCPS has two schools with French Immersion - Sligo Creek ES and Maryvale ES. Depending on where you live in the county, you apply for a transfer to one or the other (from your home school).

There are French-speaking paraeducators at Sligo Creek but these positions may be cut in the current budget crisis.

WIS, preK-3 through grade 12. One of the only full IB programs (elementary through graduation) in the area. All French teachers are native speakers. Terrific place if private school is within your budget.

For nursery school, try FMS - French Maternal School - in Georgetown. An exceptional program for 2/3/4's completely taught in French. My son attends and my daughter will next year. It's a fantastic school.

The elementary French immersion programs in MoCo articulate to Silver Spring International Middle School (housed, with Sligo Creek ES, in the old Blair High School), which is an IB World school with the Middle Years Programme curriculum. They have great teachers. This year, the middle schoolers are taking a trip to a French speaking country for Spring Break (not sure which one).

The French International School, Rochambeau. Primariily French native speakers but in the younger grades they accept a few Anglophones every year. All subjects taught in French. English taught as a foreign language 3 to 4 hours a week. The language of playground/ lunch room is generally English. For non native french speakers, FSL (French as a Second Language) tutoring provided.

For preschool, CommuniKids Preschool in Falls Church has a French immersion program for 2 1/2 - 5 year olds.

Fairfax Cty has a second french immersion elementary school besides Kent Gardens. I think it is in Herndon.
