Will the PSAT happen in October this year?

Anonymous
Does anyone have any insight as to whether the PSAT will actually happen in October 2020 and by extension will the National Merit Program be in jeopardy? Have they ever had to cancel the exam in its history? Unlike the SAT or ACT it’s a one shot (once a year) kind of thing, right? I am wondering if they move it to the spring of 2021? Thoughts?

Will SSAT happen in the fall?

Honestly, no one‘s gonna know what happens in the fall...

Signs point to no.

I’m hoping it does because it wouldn’t be fair to ruin the chance at becoming a national merit finalist but based on the fact that college board isn’t doing a online SAT, I doubt they would do an online PSAT if necessary.

Is PSAT on computer or paper? We are in NOVA.

Doesn't matter. Even if it's an online format, they would do it in an in person proctored setting. They aren't going to just let kids take it online from home. If schools close, the proctored settings will be closed. Maybe they can delay it until spring this school year.

In the past, did they give the tests on computer or paper? Does a student have a choice on which type he/she can participate?

It will vary by school district. If a given district has low covid-19 rates, the PSAT can proceed. If the schools in a district have a hybrid in-person, online model, then National Testing Day can be an in-person day for only 11th graders (and maybe 10th graders as well).

This is kind of a silly reason.

Only on paper. PSAT and SAT have not been offered in a computer version. College Board has been trying to develop an online test for years (for proctored centers), but after difficulties with at-home AP exams this spring, they nixed at-home SAT exams for this fall.
