Blisters on toes?

Anonymous
DS15 needs new cleats--his are just worn out. He thought he wanted to get the same cleat in the same size, but then this morning he showed me blisters on the tips of his big and second toes. We should move up a half size, right? We don't have a good soccer store where we live so we have to order online.

Feet are too important, gotta visit a place to try on the shoes at least.

If you dont want to go to the store to try cleats on you can order from Soccer.com, they accept returns on pairs (used or not) for up to 30days.

Definitely. Especially for that age. Some are tight on top or too narrow.

My soccer playing teen says she got blisters like that from having shoes that were too big and didn’t fit properly.

Well you can have them delivered, try them on/check their fit, and if you don't like them, send them back.

Depends on your kid. Mine insists that he needs his cleats to fit really tight so he can feel the ball properly. He even cuts the bottoms of his socks off so he can wear thinner socks inside his cleats and he gets blisters and black toenails all the time. I think he's a neurotic idiot, but I've given up having the argument.

We just got new cleats for our 14 yr. DS. Half size up. He used to get blisters but now we buy leather cleats. He likes Nike Tiempo and Adidas Copa.

Best thing we ever did for preventing blisters (two boys through the DA system) was to buy sock liners. These, specifically:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000G7XWZC

Lots of side benefits too. Boots (ok, "cleats") not destroyed as fast; not as stinky. Soccer socks not destroyed as fast; also way easier to get on! Buy enough to last a week.

Also, if you are getting a blister (but it's not blown up yet, or is recovering), try some KT Tape over the area. It works really well--stretches for a smooth fit; sticks well so it doesn't get rubbed away.
