Hi - we're thinking of sending our kids (toddler and preschooler) back to daycare/preschool but we were in a daycare downtown that now isn't feasible without taking our kids on the metro (which we're not going to do) so are looking for a daycare closer to home in Woodley Park. Any daycares a long walk or short drive from Woodley Park that have dedicated outdoor space and are opened or re-opening and may have both a toddler and a preschooler slot open? The outdoor space is particularly important to me during COVID since they won't be doing field trips and I want them to get daily outdoor time. Thanks! |
I don't know if they have spots, but School for Friends is a reasonable walk from you. Right now, they're opening on an A/B schedule, but hopefully that will change as the DC standards (8 kids/2 teachers per room) change. They have a great dedicated outdoor space. I suspect the situation with enrollment is pretty fluid. Unlike lots of other preschools in the area, they do have an 18 month classroom. |

How old is your youngest? |
OP here - 17 months. |
St Albans Early Childhood Center has outdoor playgrounds on their property that they use everyday and they set up water play stations outdoors twice a week. It’s pretty challenging to get off the waitlist there, but definitely worth a shot! |
Broadcasters Child Development Center has openings right now and they have a brand new playground. |
Yes, St. Columba’s Nursery School in Tenleytown has a huge wonderful playground. Think they take the kids out rain, snow or sun everyday and more than once a day. Only wouldn’t for lightning storms. Kids encouraged to keep rain boots and raincoat at school. They have some small animals roaming the playground and small class sizes. Think it’s now full day with aftercare available. |
Yes! The St. Columba outdoor space is awesome!!!! We ended up turning down a spot there because we were pulled off the waitlist at St. Albans finally, but I was super impressed when I was there for the tour! |
