We live in Key/SF zone, but transferred our DD to Taylor. We are not sure we will be here for the long-haul and so didn't want to do immersion, and then possibly leave for a school in another state that did not offer the spanish immersion. I also think immersion is wonderful for kids who already speak Spanish, but may put kids who don't speak Spanish at a disadvantage. Imagine learning other subjects in a language you do not yet fully understand. I think it would be rough. But aside from that, we visited the school and did not get friendly vibes from the Principal. That was the most important reason we crossed Key off of our list.
Next, Science Focus - for us, too much emphasis on science, ie, do you want your kid to sing the periodic table in music class? My neighbors have kids going there and love it. I don't think you can go wrong with this school.
Taylor - love it. Wonderful teachers, DD is thriving. Excellent principal and asst principal. They do a great job of differentiating students (ie, breaking up students by ability and so challenging ones who need it). The school has very little diversity (mainly white kids) which to me is the only downside. DD had Ms. Ross for KG (she is excellent); then Ms. Liebold for 1st (also great) and now for 2d grade Ms. DeMarco, who is fantastic and just won teacher of the year for Taylor. Awesome extracurriculars to include chess, yoga, art, computers, etc. You will love this school!!
