| We just heard schools may be going until 5:30 pm or so in our area (western Fairfax County) (and starting at 1030). This is likely to complicate the ability of attending kids to practice with teams that start practices before 7 pm (dinner, traffic, etc.) Anybody hearing anything similar? Are clubs aware? |
haven't heard of this but what could clubs do in this situation? If kids are getting off at 5:30, a 6 pm start would be the earliest they could make it if playing at a local club and with limited field space and back to back practices needs, the earliest end time for the older group would be 9 pm. Unlikely that the clubs would be able to adjust to a later start IMO. |
| Why would they do this? |
we are in western FFX?!? Where did you hear this? I thought the late schedule was 10-4:50 ?? |
| Schools and sports no longer mix. |

| We are in the eastern FFX area and just found out our ES bell will be 9:50-4:50pm. |
Only twice a week on site though, right? |

| Whats the point of the time shift? Is covid more active in the morning? |
Vienna is Western Fairfax? |
Western part of county, yes. |
| It could be bussing issues to keep safe numbers. |
OP. Yep, it might make sense in light of that. Lower busloads could mean later starting time, though if only half (at most) are going to school at any given time, then there should be half the students and therefore the same amount of buses. Obviously have no problems with any of it, just trying to anticipate how to deal with logistics. Maybe they are finally taking the opportunity to start older kids later in school, which has always made a ton of sense to me. |
I think it is bus schedules and minimizing pre-school, cross grade interactions. Our school is discussing a schedule where kids are all 5 minutes off schedule with other grades so no two grades are in the hallway at the same time. |
