MLS opens applications for additional clubs to join youth development platform.
Will any local ex-DA teams apply? Seems like an opportunity just opened up for a few clubs.... https://www.soccerwire.com/news/mls-opens-applications-for-additional-clubs-to-join-youth-development-platform/ |
| Atlanta United just joined ECNL Boys. Now they’re asking for clubs to apply? |
| Atlanta joining ECNL? ....wtf, i don't get it. is youth soccer that screwed up? |

| I can say that Loudoun will not be applying as DC United will ultimately be out in Leesburg supposedly. |
To be clear, folks, there are plenty of other boys teams that were in both DA and ECNL. ECNL teams are often second teams of MLS Academies. |
I don’t think the ex DAs will apply. They are in ECNL. It is likely a few other local clubs who are strong on the boys side will apply. Some have been expecting this to happen. |
| I think the MLS is coming around to the reality they need more sides in this league unless they want kids to fly to Chicago and Kansas City on the weekends for matches (which has been hinted at). |
They said this from the outset if you looked at what they said closely enough. There are a number of top notch boys teams who will be able to compete effectively and were already scrimmaging DAs competitively before DAs folded. |
Many clubs that were kicked to the curb when DA folded won't be particularly interested in joining the league run by the same people that kicked them to the curb. |
If that is what drives their decisionmaking, instead of what may be in the best interest of their players, fine for the rest of us. But I also think the ship has sailed for all of the clubs that went to ECNL. They are not now going to reverse course, and I am not sure they could. |
| DS was kicked out for being too good |
And what is exactly in the best interests of players? Joining a league that is run by people that have demonstrated willingness to kick loyal member clubs to the curb? How much fun did Arlington or VDA families had this year with uncertainty regarding the next season after DA folded? |
All fair points. But this isn’t about whether you feel wanted or jilted as a club or individuals. It is whether you think a league is more likely to provide the best competition for your team. If Arlington and VDA had been patient, they could have done something else. Instead, they rushed for acceptance elsewhere. It’s not like they made poor decisions. My point only was that this shouldn’t be about feelings. |

As I understand it, the new league is being run by the MLS. DA was under the US Soccer Federation.
MLS will be a much better experience overall, so if you are VDA or Arlington, why not join the newly created top youth league in America... |
