Ovulating through meds

Anonymous
I just had my first IVF cycle (but I did two egg retrieval cycles four years ago when I was freezing eggs), and my retrieval was cancelled at the last minute because of a concern that I would ovulate early, making the trigger shot ineffective. Have others experienced this? Did the clinic just mis-time the trigger shot? I have some concern that it was due to the fact that I didn't have a monitoring appointment over the weekend (when results would have been more likely to catch the LH surge). Can others share if they generally have monitoring appointments on the weekend and, if so, at which clinics? Also, if I decide to get a second opinion, I would love recommendations for doctors in the area. I'm about to be 39 in September, so I would want to go to someone who specializes in women in my age range.

This happened to me. I am in my mid-30's and tried two IUI cycles. I ovulated before I could even get to the trigger shot. I was monitored throughout, it just was crappy timing. Did they give you Ganirelex? I had a round of IVF and I took this shot daily near the end to keep me from ovulating too early. If they didn't use that shot that is probably why you went ahead and ovulated. It's a risk without it in IVF.

Thanks - I was on cetrotide.

I was at Shady Grove and they monitored every single day, including weekends. However I felt the ultrasound techs on the weekend were not as good as the regular ones. One time the follicle measurements were really off.

My body tried to ovulate through Cetrotide a few times. I'm DOR and respond like one. If you have low ovarian reserve, that could be related.

I have DOR and we start doubling the ganerelix now on stim day 6 because I ovulated thru meds my first ivf cycle.

I’d never go to a clinic that didn’t monitor on the weekends.

Cetrotide and Ganirelix are essentially the same. Op how many follicles did you have?

OP: I had 5 follicles (definitely a less successful cycle than my prior two egg freezing cycles when I was, of course, younger).

Hi OP, sounds like a frustrating situation!
I hope that you might not mind my asking about your previously frozen eggs...will you or did you try to use them? I have 2 rounds of frozen eggs and have yet to connect with any women who have actually thawed their own banked eggs (*not* fertilized eggs/embryos just eggs alone) for IVF. I would be really interested to hear your experience in that department and about your decision making process in going for a fresh retrieval. Sending best wishes.
