My kids love milkshakes and bubble tea. I let them have one once per week. I'm mostly concerned about the risk of diabetes. |
Real milkshakes made with fresh milk and ice cream? That’s not all that sugary and the fat and protein balances the sugar. Don’t sweat that once a week.
I don’t know what the other drink is. My kids get a kind of dessert every night after dinner. Usually ice cream. |
9 year old is allowed one sweet treat per day, typically a popsicle after dinner. |
Are they at high risk for diabetes?
The thing about milkshakes is the portions I think. Would they go for a tropical fruit smoothie instead? |
Every day.

We have no family history of diabetes. I just read about the health risks and am concerned: https://health.clevelandclinic.org/sugar-how-bad-are-sweets-for-your-kids/ Tropical fruit smoothie could be a good idea. Thanks! |
Thanks for the advice. Bubble tea is tea-based and sometimes has milk and tapioca pearls. Your kids are lucky to get dessert every day ![]() |
Once a week will have no effect on diabetes lol |
Huh? |
My kids eat whatever they want whenever they want. |
LOL worried about once a week sugary snack |
What do you mean? |
I wasn't worried until I read recommendations from AHA saying that kids aged 2-18 should have "no more than 8 ounces of sugar-sweetened drinks per week" |
Bubble tea will rot their teeth OP. You must be Asia’s |
If you meant Asian, I'm not. No need to assume. Is bubble tea worse than other sugary drinks? |
