My father wants to divorce his "ex" wife

My father was married for 10 years to his wife but they have been separated for 6 years now. He lives in Fairfax, VA and she moved to Florida a few years ago.

He wants to get divorce and I'm clueless on divorce information. No lawyers needed. They don't have children or assets to split.

Anyone with experience on doing divorces on their own? are there any agencies that do it without high lawyers fees?

There’s probably a do it yourself step by step paperwork where he is. Go to the state court website and look around. This is what you get for Maryland, for example:

Why are you managing this for him? Is he not capable of seeking out information on his own?

I bet they do have assets. You are saying he has NO retirement funds at all? That is a much bigger problem than his undivorced wife btw.

She will have to be served in Florida.

How could they have no assets? They are married. 50/50 unless prenup.

My guess is that this is not his first wife and they weren’t married that long.

Probably OP means that they've each agreed to part amicably and not seek assets from the other and there are no kids/child support to worry about.

OP here. My dad is almost 70 and this is his second wife. He moved on and his "ex" wife did too. She doesn't have any problems signing papers, but he has to do the work. And of course, he's asking me for help. I don't even know where to start and was hoping someone had done this on their own without lawyers. I'll check the State Court and legal zoom.

I did it on my own in DC. We weren't arguing over anything, didn't have kids. Filed in August, we were divorced in October. I don't know what the requirements are in Virginia but google.
