S/O — pear shaped women, come in and tell me how to exercise!

Anonymous
I was inspired by the apple-shaped post. As with most pear-shaped women, I’m self-conscious of my thighs, which is where all my weight goes.

How can I tone them up? They’re sadly flabby. I’m not necessarily looking to lose weight; it’s more about tone.

Thanks!!

I think? I’m pear shaped? Walking helps. So does the stair climber. I run outside but walk on a treadmill with an incline to make it more challenging and also to shape my quads.

All of my extra weight goes to my hips and outer thighs.

I am pear shaped. I feel like I have to keep my weight low, because even if it’s just the fat thighs, it’s hard to hide, and makes me look heavier than I am. I run and do Pilates. I feel like having muscular legs, even if larger, looks far better than fat, flabby legs.

!. Find forms of movement you enjoy. Ideally, you'll find things you love so much you don't like your rest days.

2. Do them.

3. Be grateful for a body that makes that possible.

The point of exercise is not to change your body type. It's to feel better.

Running has slimmed out my legs. Don’t get me wrong, my thighs still rock, but less so than before running. Also really helped with cellulite.

I also find that building muscle in my shoulders and back helps to balance me out.

I agree with the pp's. Stay on the thin side, walk, run, and lift weights. Then you look much more hourglass vs pear shaped.

Lift weights and high intensity interval training. Get your heart rate up really high during the work phases. Work out like an athlete. And as a PP mentioned, building up shoulder and back muscles will balance you out. All of this has worked for me.

Although when I get thin I also lose my boobs, so I am STILL a pear.

Yup, I am a classic pear shape, too and have lost 15 pounds this year with diet and walking. The weight seems to have come off from my face and boobs (places I'd prefer to have some fullness) and a bit from my tummy. My thighs look the same. So frustrating! I think I need to work on building my shoulders as others suggest since I don't want to lose much more weight.

Ashtanga yoga did wonders for building out my upper body muscles and giving me a more balanced appearance. There are like a million chaturangas in primary series, which is amazing for arm strength and chest/shoulder broadening.

I think I’m apple shaped? Skinny legs and arms and slender shoulders but big butt. The only thing that’s helped is yoga. Makes me look longer and masks the butt. Plus I feel great

Makes you look longer? Did you grow?

You have to really slim down to lose the fat. I carry any extra weight in my rear and upper thighs. I just try to dress for it, rather than defeat it. Doing squats help a lot because it lifts your rear significantly. It's best when done with heavy weights/squat rack.

Do not be afraid to lift heavy to tone and firm your thighs and ass. Lots of cardio too.

Ha. But actually, I did! 3/4 of an inch from the spine expanding. I noticed this for the first time about about 6 months of yoga,10 years ago. But actually I think you know what I meant
