Does anyone have any clarity on what is allowed/opening?

The "Gyms and Workout Studios" section has some info on pools.

No idea about DPR/aquatic centers, though.

One thing I do know: people should NOT be using Rock Creek as an alternative to pools! I'm shocked at the number of children I saw in the water today.

PSA: Rock Creek is not clean water. E. coli numbers are high right now. It gets a little better every year, but it is not safe water.

DPR pools can reopen for lap swimming and other structured activities in Phase 2. Other pools can reopen with restrictions. However, I haven't been able to find any other detailed information about what the restrictions are. My guess is that it's still being drafted. Initially, no pools were supposed to open at all until Phase 3, so this is an improvement. My guess is that this change was made last minute and so DC government is still trying to figure out exactly how pools can reopen and then will provide guidance.

Seriously- there are so many families with young kids wading in the water. I am not squeamish about nature, have swum in the Potomac, etc but I would never swim in Rock Creek! I can’t believe that anyone would let their kids (or their dogs- our vet warned us that he sees so many pups with infections from this).

Do you have a link to info on DPR pools? I couldn't find that when I was looking (and am missing my lap swims tremendously!)

Go to the DC COVID site and look at Bowser's last situational report. But literally all it says is DPR pools will open for lap swimming and other structured activities in Phase 2. It has no details and I haven't seen them anywhere. I'm sure it will take DPR a while to figure this out, so my guess is pools will start to open in a week or so.

I know this is true, and yet, I let my kids pick up rocks from the beds and throw them etc. They definitely don't swim. If they drank some, I'm sure it wouldn't go well, but is wading really dangerous? What would happen beyond stomach issues?

Thank you!! I found it:

5. After July 15, 2020, the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) may open outdoor swimming pools for structured swim activities, including swimming lessons and lap swimming, provided that: (i) persons may not linger on the decks other than: (a) during a mandatory rest period, or (b) when the person on the deck has care over someone who is in the pool or in a lesson; and (ii) at all times, persons on the decks must maintain six (6) feet of distance between persons not in their household, and DPR may establish such other rules as it deems necessary.

Answer: cellulitis. Bacteremia.

If your skin has even the teeny, tiniest breach then pathogen-packed Rock Creek water just seeps right in. All you need is a scratch on your calf or a bug bite on your ankle. Just one wading session is enough, as I now know first hand.

what about playgrounds??
All I have seen is select opening with guidelines- but have not seen any guidelines for playgrounds.
