i have heard that people use it as a drop off for a few hours here and there kind of thing. This would not work for me as I want some kind of consistency for my kids.

Not sure what PP means as a "drop off for a few hours"
MOCO has full and half day camps....different types of camps with different interests in mind....

Here's the online brochure

The "Drop off" programs PP was refering to are called Summer Fun Centers, which are different from MCRD's Camp programs. Their traditional day camps are much more consistent in terms of attendance (you sign up in 2 week increments for the most part) each session. Check out the link PP posted as a number of changes look to have occured from last years guide.

Is someone from the county running this thread here??? FWIW, I know people used these camp programs for "babysitting purposes" because it was fairly inexpensive.

As a child growing up in MoCo, I went to the MCRD camps that were held in schools... Obviously things could change between now and then, and I think a lot of the quality of a camp depends on its director... But from what I remember, it was a lot of just hanging around and playing with gimp. For my own kid, I'd like to find a more interest-driven, fun camp OR a county one with a stellar director and staff.

My son attended in MC camp held in Great Seneca Creek Park (can't remember the exact name) for 2 weeks last summer. LOVED IT. Canoeing, swimming hiking, bowling field trip and an over night at the end. With 2 kids attending a wide range of camps each summer..I have learned that the cost does not always relate to their level of happiness. This summer both my kids will go to an ice skating/tennis camp by MC Parks.. Good Luck

This is more like what is done at the "Fun Center". They hang out and play games, do arts and crafts, play outside and eat lunch....they don't have to go everyday and they can be dropped off at anytime and picked up at anytime...the cost is $150.00 for the entire summer....
