Will TP defund its PD?

Anonymous
TP is one of the most progressive area in MoCo and also has its own police department. Will TP residents defund police?
Anonymous
Nope. Because Takoma Park white people might act woke, but they also got money. And they want police around because they get nervous if they see Black people around. Like they are going to be robbed or something. So they won’t be getting rid of the police.

Funny. Don’t know whether Tony DuVaul has cleaned house there, but some Takoma Park Police are pretty bad....

I live in Takoma Park. There is discussion, but I have observed more solidarity efforts than substantive discussions about disbanding the TKPD. There was an incident where one of the officers removed BLM flyers because flyers are not allowed to be tacked on public utility poles, etc..., and that officer issued an apology pretty quickly and the city changed that law overnight. I don't see it happening, but I do see more proactive trainings and de-escalation units being created here, along the lines of the defund the PD recommendations.

Of course they will. They tried to ban gas stations and gas stoves in people's homes. A while ago it took a LOT of insane convincing that no, forcing people to heat their homes with corn is probably a bad idea. Yes, TP loony lefties were in a warpath at one point to force people to put corn stoves in their homes and that they'd have to get deliveries of corn to their houses to heat it. TP = toilet paper, indeed.

So the very progressive TAkoma Park residents still want to keep their police department. How big is the TKPD? Is there any crime in TK?

God I hope so. Then all the woke white people can gloat in their wokeness even more so until something bad happens 2 days later.

Population 17,000. Very low crime.

Defunding =/= disbanding. You have changed the narrative.

Something bad will happen if they hire more social workers and create community programs? Tell us more about your vast knowlege of the programs.

This. I lived there for 15 years. We had just one issue (a car break in) and we lived in the gnarly parts, not Old Town. There’s more crime in Takoma DC.

Have you ever considered why you assume “something bad” will happen to white people in TKPK. Is it because you believe black and brown people are inherently criminal? Have you ever even lived there?

Oh here we go. Why am I not at all surprised by this response?

Ha! TP is the most hypocritical place in the planet. They will NEVER get rid of their PD.

TP is a textbook example of neighborhood segregation. The black/brown folks are poor and in the low income housing while the white folks are in the SFH bungalows and Victorians. When TP residents decide to convert their houses into multi family buildings, live in one unit and then rent the other units out to low income families living in equal quality space then they won't be hypocrites.

When TP residents decide to give up the set aside magnet spots for their white kids who don't perform anywhere near as well as the asian kids in other areas back to people of color then they won't be hypocrites.

When TP residents move to give up parking areas or new dining restaurants to support more homeless shelters and social services then they won't be hypocrites. When TP residents decide to defund their own PD and increase their local taxes to provide UBI to local poor people to lower income equality then they won't be hypocrites.

None of those things will ever happen because TP is land of the hypocrites.

MCPD will just take over and Takoma Park will get less money from the County.
