Infertility Support and Discussion
I had one down about 3 years ago. My insurance doesnt cover fertility diagnostics so hoping to avoid having to do this again.
Is a doctor telling you to get another one? I don't see why you'd need one unless you have been trying for awhile.
i asked my RE if i needed to get one before trying for #2 and he said no.
i didnt have one
My RE had me do one just in case there had been a change since #1.
I was TTC with #3 (first two were unassisted, uncomplicated, and within the last 3-4 years), and my RE insisted on another HSG. I had it, it turned out I was already pregnant (although tests had been negative -- maybe too early?), and resulted in an abdominal ectopic pregnancy that ruptured and was life-threatening. Not to scare you, but every medical procedure has risks, and it bothers me that some REs insist on this just because it is part of their "protocol." If you do it, just make sure and take a pregnancy test the day of the test to be absolutely sure. Best of luck.
My RE said I didn't need one--it had been about 3 years since first baby. I would only do it if they suspected some issue--which they should be able see suggested by sonogram or other symptoms.
I totally agree with this poster about REs and their "protocols." That said, some REs are more flexible than others. Found SG to be protocol driven; by contrast, Dr. Sacks at Columbia basically let me make decisions about the protocol--ie no birth control pills to suppress ov during lupron, no HSG, etc. Great doctor. |
Unless you have a reason to think your tubes have become blocked or your have been trying for a while without success (6+ months of timed intercourse), I see no need for another HSG right now.
If you have ever been diagnosed with endometriosis, I would suggest another hsg -sometimes the disease can quietly and quickly block the tubes (or form small cysts that block the tubes).
i had to have another after a year. i think your RE wants to make sure all is clear before all that $ goes into TTC
