City Council Just Voted FOR no Riot Control, Hiring Freeze on MPD etc.

Insane. They are voting now.

This is good. I'm a DC resident and I support this. If you want to move, go right ahead. I don't care if my property value goes down a bit. It's been going up too much making it hard for people if moderate income to buy a place and settle down.

Defund police is shorthand for restructuring/rebuilding; no civil forfeiture; no military weapons. There will ALWAYS be police in rich neighborhoods. Poor people need policing, too. They also not to be targeted/murdered by police for sitting in their cars, sitting in their homes, jogging, etc.

This is fantastic news. I am with them all the way on this.

What are those of you panicking about this move reacting to, exactly? There were two nights of extremely localized damage to a small handful of commercial establishments, and about 10 nights of huge, peaceful protests.

I wish the businesses near my house that were vandalized hadn't been, and I plan to continue to spend money there so they can recover quickly (well, maybe not at the CVS or the Saks, which we don't really shop at anyway, but they'll be OK without me), but absolutely nothing has happened that would make me think about moving out of D.C. There hasn't been anything remotely resembling a riot.

That doesn’t say anything that is in the title. Is OP just lying?

What's in this bill that's so terrifying that everyone thinks their home values are going to fall (and that's prompting just straight-up racist comments in this thread, like the "ghetto fabulous" line above)?

The bill bans MPD from hiring officers with a history of serious misconduct elsewhere, requires quick release of the names and body-camera footage of officers who use force on people and makes it so the police union isn't in charge of disciplining cops. It also bans the use of rubber bullets or tear gas on peaceful protesters.

I feel safer WITH those changes in place. Why would you want to live in a city that hires cops who committed serious misconduct somewhere else before they came here?

Nothing in the OP's post is factually correct. Therefore, I am going to lock this thread. Someone may want to start a new, accurate thread.
