Sesame Street CNN Racism town hall: what’d you think?

If you watched it, what were your thoughts—loved it, hated it? Did it work as a resource for you or your kids?

Too many adult talking heads. My kids zoned out after big bird left.

My kids (4 and 7) were not engaged. The content wa snot very helpful either — surface and too many tired tropes.

I forgot about this one but we screened the covid one to see if it would be good for our 4 year old and it was the same thing - too many adult talking heads. We were bored and DD definitely would have been. Not surprised but disappointed this one was the same.

Our 3.5 year old liked the COVID one. We missed this one.

Just because it didn’t work for your kids doesn’t mean it was dumb. Try being kind.

I was hoping for more material for younger kids. My 4 year old was not interested, but my 7 year old benefited. She had been asking about black lives matter and what this meant.

I'm a journalist and I truly wanted to love this because I think its wonderful they put the time into it and obviously badly needed. But yeah, our kids, 4 and 6, will basically stare at anything on the TV and this could not hold their attention. Too many talking heads and then big bird, which is more for toddlers so I think it was missed the mark for their age.

Perfect on-ramp for our 8yo. We used it as a jumping off point into a much bigger conversation.

My 5 y/o asked me to "put on a different Sesame Street" about 9 minutes in when the grown ups took over.

I showed this video to my daughter to explain racism https://youtu.be/1vHymutysWU

It was a video created by a kindergarten teacher and I think it's a pretty good explanation about racism and why it's wrong

I kept encouraging my 7yo daughter to stick with it but she was only engaged when the Sesame Street characters were on, which was like 5-10% of the time.

My 4yr old checked out, and 7yr old watched and asked questions about the signs people were holding and was happy to share he knew about Rosa Parks when they mentioned her, but the adults did not explain it well in terms kids could relate to and understand.

I watched the COVID one with my 4 yo and she lasted 15 min and then wanted a different Sesame Street. I wish someone would string together all the character parts of both episodes so we could try again. My attempts to do that using fast-forward were rejected.
