When to adopt kittens -- adopt now and take them on a beach vacation (driving) or wait until Sept?

Anonymous
We are considering the timing of when to adopt kittens. There are some available now (we haven't met them yet, so don't know personalities), but we'll be away for two weeks later in the summer, renting a house at a beach town a few hours away. Should we wait until we're back to adopt two kittens, or should we take advantage of this opportunity to get kittens now and either take them with us to the beach house or leave them with a friend?

One concern is that I don't know how hard it may be to get kittens at the end of summer versus now.

Take two kittens to a beach house?!

OP... have you ever had kittens or cats before?!

I am not being flip, what about getting kittens at the beach? Where I’m from there are TONS of pets available and I bet beach towns have more rescued animals than this area at the moment.

But, wait otherwise!

You don't know anything about cats do you? Wait til after your vacation There are always cats to adopt

After!!!

Of course, after the trip. Taking kittens on a trip is a really, really bad idea. OP, have you interacted with cats before???!??

Rare DCUM unanimity. Terrible idea to take any cats, let alone kittens, to a new place. It's way too easy for them to escape or get stuck in some tiny place.

The idea of adopting in the beach town is promising, though.

Depends on how far you have to drive with a cat in your car.

We used to take our cats to my parents beach house. They liked being in the house but HATED the car ride.

Wait. It will be adjustment for kitty. Why would adopt and then leave them?

I’m at the beach with my cat right now. But I have a super chill cat and I know she travels well. Would not bring kittens to a beach rental.

OMG don't take kittens or cats on vacation! Terrible idea. If you do get kittens before you go, get a house sitter (or distant second best) board them.

OMG, AFTER! Cats are incredibly territorial and have a notorious reputation for running away during moves.

I've been a cat owner my whole life and my cats never leave the house except to go to the vet.
