Underrated Schools

Which colleges do you think don’t receive the appreciation they deserve? For me, I’d say VCU. If my kids couldn’t get into a Tech, UVA, W&M, or JMU. I’d encourage them to go there. It has a large selection of very useful majors, and Richmond is a pretty cool city and could definitely be a fun place for a lot of college kids.

I don't honestly think there are under-rated schools, I think there's what's commonly known as "wishful thinking" when options are limited.

In Virginia, I'd say GMU is often underrated by NoVa kids because it is in their back yard. I also think W&M gets discounted by some too easily recently.

This is 100% true. Based on the faculty and such, it should be a premier school in VA, on par with VT...but most NOVA kids do not want to go there...

My niece from New York visited when she was looking at colleges. She was interested and applied but ultimately went somewhere else, But it was high on her list.

There are certainly overrated schools, ergo there are underrated schools.

Overrated schools for academics: Johns Hopkins outside of Pre-med/natural sciences, Washington University outside of Pre-med/natural sciences, UVA for everything (especially on this board), U-Chicago outside of humanities/economics, Notre Dame, Georgetown outside of international relations/government, Vanderbilt for everything.

You're going to have to do a lot better than that.

For UConn at least, for $53k+ per year you can do so much better. You can invest money in sat prep, a better known school, a smaller school, etc rather than there.
