| I waited 5 hours to vote in DC last night. Finally got to the poll at 12:20am. I cannot even begin to understand how or why this happened. How did an entire board of directors agree that limiting volume to 10 people at a time and shutting down the majority of voting centers was ok? Who did not see that turning in to a complete clusterf*ck with massive delays? The Chairman of the DC BOE has to go. |
Did anyone else not receive their absentee ballot for the primary. My daughter and I both submitting requests. Hers arrived; mine didn't... |
|
THANK YOU for waiting that long, OP.
And yes, complain on social media and wherever else it matters. |
OP here--yes, there were several people in line with me that showed up because they never received their absentee ballots. |
DC is getting a taste of what it’s like to vote in a blue area of a state run by Republicans. 5-hour lines are what Republican governors create all over Florida and Alabama and Georgia and Mississippi. And Republican attorneys get sent to places like Philly to challenge votes and create long lines. I’ve done voter protection in blue cities and seen widespread 3-hour lines while little Brett Kavanaughs make frivolous challenges to create longer waits. All this happened in PA and WI in 2016. DC should use this as a way to lead the way nationally to make it easier to vote. |
That's unfortunate. Absentee voting is one way to reduce the spread of the virus. Perhaps we should file complaints with the DC BOE? |
OP again--I did. I also signed up as a volunteer to work the booths in November. This is not rocket science and I'll be damned if I'm going to let it happen again. |
Thank you! I'm happy to say that pretty much everyone in line with me last night stayed through until the bitter end. I only saw two people finally give up and leave. |
*applause* |
| I am glad people stayed to vote but why didn’t you vote early? Polling places have been open for over a week all across town |
| I requested an absentee ballot within the deadline and never received it. I alerted my council member's office and they said many people did not receive them - they will investigate with the BOE. |
Exactly. I went on Sunday at 5 and was the only voter there. |
If they'd told me my ballot world never arrive, I would have voted on Saturday as well. |
| I would have gone on Saturday if I didn’t have a ballot by then. |
Are you blaming too many people for showing up to vote...on Election Day? What is wrong with you? Why don’t your focus your obvious criticism on the BOE that shut down half of the voting centers when they knew they were limiting voters to 10 at a time while thousands of people weren’t receiving their absentee ballots? |
