seat covers or try to repair, clean fabric upholstery?

Anonymous
My car is 7 years old with light gray fabric upholstery. I have kids and the upholstery is pretty dirty. I've never really tried to clean the upholstery with any type of cleaner. There are no tears or holes except for a hole in the drivers seat. The hole is about quarter sized (or a little larger) on the seat back (from where the button on my winter jacket pulled at the fabric, apparently). I was thinking about patching the hole and trying to clean the upholstery. But I'm also wondering if I should just get covers at this point.

Any recommendations for upholstery cleaners or seat covers? Is it worth it to have it professionally cleaned or repaired? It is not a fancy or expensive car at all. I expect to drive it for at least 2 more years. I just sunk some money on normal repairs (tire, brakes, and such), so I was thinking of trying to spruce up the car a little. Everything else about the car is in top shape.

Thanks.

Seat covers are a pain. Clean and repair if it’s not too expensive.

I got fake leather seat covers and they are incredible. I don't remember the brand, but they were specific to my make and model and it took me like 2 hours to install them because they are so tight. It's 5 years later and they still look terrific. No one can tell they're covers. Everything just vacuums or wipes off. I despise fabric upholstery and I did this when the car was new, and I'll never not do it going forward if I get another car with fabric seats.

Oh yeah iirc they cost like $500 so not sure I would do it for only 2 years?
