One kitten vs. two

| I think it's better to have two to keep each other company but I guess it depends on how many hours it will be left alone. |

| We also were told we could only have one, but then learned that we could have two for an extra fee. Two is the absolute limit. A year later, I really wish we’d gotten a second kitten. This one has a lot of energy and needs to hunt something constantly. |

Why does it matter if it's a kitten or adult cat? Would a child as a playmate fill the gap of having a second kitten? |

Yes they do. Just like humans, cats can have different personalities, but, in general, cats are social creatures. |

| I would get two not for the cats - but for you. Kittens love to play. All the time. At all hours of the night. Without a playmate, they're just going to jump on your face. |

| There are people who say getting two risks them bonding with each other rather than with you. Never had that happen. Litter mates are best because they don’t see each other as strangers. Cats don’t really get lonely very easily, but having cat company can be good for them. More importantly, as one PP noted, 2x the kittens is 2x the fun! |

| We have always adopted sibling kittens together and have had a great experience. Interestingly, when I adopted them, the rescue organization would only adopt kittens in pairs. Maybe get a young cat if you can only have one. |

| We got two liter-mates. One died prematurely and the surviving kitty missed her so much! It’s been a few years and we may adopt a kitten. I think one has to pay attention to gender age etc. so they can get along and share a liter box. |
