| We cooked shrimp on Monday night and my house still has a fishy smell... yuck!! Tried to keep the windows open yesterday during the near 60-degree temps, but can't really do that for long. Any tips for getting the smell out? |
| Put out several small bowls of white vinegar. It is what a relative who is a firefighter recommends to absorb smells. Also make sure any spatters, etc in the kitchen were cleaned up, esp around the stove and the trash. |
| Ooh, I haven't heard of using vinegar before. That sounds good! I was going to suggest small bowls of baking soda. You can also sprinkle the baking soda on the counter/stove for a while to let it absorb stuff and then wipe it up with a damp sponge. |
| I usually wash any curtains in the kitchen as well. They seem to hold the smell more than anything in my house. |
| Wipe down the floors and walls with a scented cleaner. |
| If you have a oven/stove vent, try washing the screen (where it sucks up the steam/smoke, etc.). It can get kind of greasy/grimy and trap odors. Mine fits in the dishwasher and I've found washing it regularly helps keep my house smelling fresher. |

LEmons in the disposal works well.
Baking some cookies or something. Charcoal brickquets (like for a grill) have worked well for me for getting smells out of my car and my fridge. I agree with the air ventilation cleaning thing. |
That is the best option so far.

In addition to the above, check carefully that all of the seafood is out of the house. Sometimes a shrimp or shrimp tail will fall behind a trash can or get lodged in the garbage disposal and it gets pretty strong one the thing starts rotting.
Agree about cleaning the kitchen area including the vent if you were cooking on the stove. |
