Need advise for nanny who wants to leave her husband

Anonymous
My nanny wants to leave her marriage. She lives with a man who comes home drunk all the time and tries to force her to have sex with him. They bought a house together about ten years ago, but his is the only name on the lease. He pays the mortgage, but she works full time and contributes equally to household expenses. (They have two kids together)

She wants to move out and rent a room from a friend, however she fears that if she does so she will lose her claim on the house. She fears he will get his family to move in, and she won't have any rights in court. So she says she wants to go to court first and then move out. However, given her extremely tense and unhappy situation, I think she should move out asap and I believe her right to half of the house will still be recognized when they go to court. However, I really don't know anything.

My question is, where should she go in order to talk to someone about her rights? She's a Spanish speaker and speaks poor English.

I would really appreciate any advise, as she's been in this situation for so long now, and I worry about her and think she needs to take action now.

Did you mean "residency" status. Not sure why her citizenship should matter.

Marital property, no matter how titled, is jointly owned. She's in good shape even if the house isn't in her name. But she still needs some legal counsel and other types of support. If she's in Montgomery County she should visit or call the Family Justice Center for a one-stop shop on information about housing, domestic violence, substance abuse, legal advice, custody, etc.

Thanks for the advice. My concern is that she is not a citizen, even though she has lived here many years, while he is
