If schools reopen, will you send your children? (Informal poll)

Anonymous
I’m curious if parents will send their kids if campuses reopen with social distancing “measures” in place? Or, if schools give an option to continue distant learning will you choose that? Or...will you pull kids entirely and do homeschool/online program/private school? I’ll go first, I’ll send kids (grades 5 and 7).

Yes, absolutely. Grades 3 and K.

I will send my kids and keep hoping against hope that school is opened as normal--with sports and activities. If not, I may move to somewhere else--where the sane people are letting their kids have their lives back.

Depends on the measures and the public health situation at the time.

Who knows what 3+ months from now will look like.

YES!

I really fail to understand why parents think they’ll have a choice. Schooling is compulsory in this country up to age 16.

I'd send my 8th grader because he can remember to wear a mask, have sanitizer handy and doesn't have any health conditions.

We are really struggling with this. We expect that even if schools do open in September, they will close again in the fall/winter during phase 2 when infections/deaths begin to increase again. On a macro level, I totally understand that schools need to re-open in order to re-start the economy so that parents can go to work. But in terms of my own family risk calculus, I am considering keeping them home. All depends on whether I can continue to telework or take an unpaid leave of absence. In my perfect world, school would offer a distance learning option even if in-person classes resume, but I am open to the idea of home schooling if not. Kids will be K and 3rd.

Yes unless the public health situation is dire. I want my kid to start K with other kids.

"Schooling" doesn't mean you have to put your child on the bust to public school though.

I will send my K, as long as in person school is happening. If school goes virtual, I might not send him at all. Next year we'll evaluate if he should start K on the older side, or skip and go straight to 1st.

So you will be homeschooling them? Or do you plan to break the law.

This. We’ve been in this for about two months. A lot will develop over the summer that will impact everyone’s choices. Then, a lot will likely happen as flu season ramps up that will be relevant to everyone’s choices.

Op, why on earth do you think anyone could possibly make an informed decision right now?

Many districts have already said there likely will be a distance learning option/choice if schools are open at all.
