St. Columba's

Does anyone know when they send out their letters? And if you get into the afternoon program, what are the odds of going on the wait list for mornings and actually getting in?

Not sure about the answer to your latter question, but I was told by the director that the letters go out on the 14th.

Our daughter got into the afternoon program a couple of years ago and never got off the waitlist for the morning. Since she was still taking a nap, we sent her to a different school. Don't know how typical our experience was. Good luck! It's a wonderful school.

Does anyone know how well children from St. Columba's do in applying to private schools afterward? Is the director helpful in the process?

It is challenging to get into the morning program unless you live in the immediate neighborhood or an ACTIVE member of the parish. I think St. Columba's is a gem of a school and they are nurturing place to help nursery school kids be ready for school by exploring all of their 5 senses. They also have a great playground which is one of the most important things when you are dealing with nursery school age children. They also save slots for children with autism and other disabilities. Also, great exposure for both types of children in working and playing together. The parents are very active there and it is a tight community where kids end up going to both public and private schools.

Yes, the director has been at the school (first as a teacher) for many years and is tight with all the local independent schools directors. I wouldn't worry about outplacement at all if you went there.

Umm no, that's incorrect. The Director Is Julia Berry (Barry?) and she moved over from St Patrick's two or three years ago. She was the head of St Pt's nursery program. She does know lots of admissions driectors because of that. I dont know how the applications-out are going but I know its a great school.

Yes, Julia Berry. And prior to St. Pat's she was at St. Columba's as a teacher.
