Has anyone had good results combining Pilates and running? Improvement in performance and/or injury prevention? Any at home videos?
Thanks! |
Yes! I think it's the best combo. Pilates has really changed my body. I used to get lower back aches from running and pilates completely eliminated that. Normally I practice on the reformer in studio, but these days it's on the mat. I pay $18 monthly for www.pilatesanytime.com. It's great - a huge library of workouts at different levels with new ones posted often.
I really like the 10-minute solution pilates (you can find it on youtube), which are five 10-minute workouts focusing on different muscle groups, and Denise Austin's 25-minute Mat 1 Pilates, also on YouTube.
I think pilates is a great combo with anything. I don't run but I do a lot of peloton and it really helps with the overworked leg muscles, as well as building up core and strength in the upper body. I don't think you can go wrong adding pilates into your routine, whatever else you do.
pilates for the win!
I think you HAVE to have some cardio, be it running, biking, jumping, whatever you like. Pilates alone is not enough. I’ve been doing cardio Pilates along with HIIT workouts and regular Pilates and been happy with that
Yoga goes well with running, too. The stretching helps prevent the injuries that can happen with big mileage. Pilates is a lot about core strength, right? Core strength is a good thing for running - better posture makes for better running form, which can help prevent injury.
