The email encouraged campers to arrive by plane, possibly by charter flight arranged by the camp, whereupon camp staff would pick them up at the airport.

WOW!

I’m really happy to read this! Our DS is hoping to attend another sleepaway Maine Camp, and Camp Modin’s model for Covid19 screening and containment gives me hope that his camp will also open. We are supposed to hear news next week.

So happy for the kids!!!!!!

Our Maine sleep away camp canceled.

I would totally send my kid to a camp if staff arrived a week early, tested, trained for a week or whatever, and tested again before campers arrived. Then, all campers tested on arrival as well. Many of these camps are 8 weeks long. No parents weekends, no staff outings. If they could pull that off, I would totally send my kid!

The camp and the families who attend are deciding they are ok with the risk. The majority of camps seem to have decided it is not worth opening.

I wonder if they will give refunds to families not comfortable sending their kids.

Sounds very risky. I doubt you will be happy for the kids if everyone gets corvid19. Look at the uptick in cases in maryland when they opened a little bit.

You know, I would be willing to take this risk. The article outlines all of the safety precautions and pre-screenings they will have in place. This camp went through Swine Flu and meningitis outbreaks (mentioned in article) and successfully handled those. My DC’s mental health and isolation from friends is what I am more worried about right now. We have been faithfully adhering to stay at home and social distancing rules.

Good for Modin. My son goes to Jewish camp in PA and while they have cancelled first session, we are hopeful for second if PA goes into phase 2.

Don’t forget measles.

Honestly, listing out all the non-pandemic disease outbreaks a camp has endured isn’t really a great way to show they are prepared to knowingly handle another.

I am certain they will respect families’ decisions not to send their children and refund their money or apply deposits to next summer. It looks like there will be a lot of new families willing to take their place, based upon their homepage message —

I wonder how many unvaccinated kids they have that there was a measles outbreak. That doesn't make me feel confident that they or their families understand health risks.
