| Ok, here is a question that might sound insulting but not meant to be. Does it seem to you that most gay men in Washington DC are a bit on the effeminate side? Are some men actually attracted to that? It just seems that the idea of masculinity in the gay community has disappeared in this area. I don't think that is the case in most of the country, but Washington DC seems to have bred the man out of gay men. |

I don’t think that at all. But I think it is important to distinguish between effeminate and flaming. The first is a major turn off for me. The second I find very attractive. Which do you think is disproportionately represented in dc? For the record I don’t find either particularly high.
Please clarify. |

What do you mean by effeminate? Gestures or clothes? I lived for decades in various European countries, and spent some time in Asia as well. The American idea of the straight male is extraordinarily "rough" compared to others countries I've lived in. So I just want to point out that straight men in Europe and Asia can be, to the American understanding, very "effeminate" too. I see them as more elegant, neat and stylish. |
| You are looking at this from a hetero lens. That attractive men are "manly". It's not analogous, both everything will relate back to the cultural hetero norm in a one to one equivalent. |
| Lots of bears in DC. |
| Yup, lots of bears. I live in a close-in suburb and I see more bears than effeminate men. |
| OP, are you gay? |
| Da Bears. |
| Nothing new. DC has always been a city of bottoms. Endless bottoms everywhere. Lots of them butch it up, but bottom bottom bottom. |
