HS Grad Gift for Son - ideas

Anonymous
Hi all, I want to give my son something nice for graduation. Other than money.

I thought I’d get him a nice laptop, but we bought that in March so that he’d would have a reliable computer for online classes. Any other suggestions?

In this instance I think girls are easier because you can give them jewelry or engraved jewelry box, etc.

Cuff links? Nice watch? My brain is fried and nothing seems right.

Engraved watch

Nice luggage (with a carryon that he can use for trips home)

Gift card to Chipotle (not kidding)

Gaming system to take to school

GAming system seems to send the wrong message IMHO.

I am not sure if kids wear class rings anymore. Or cufflinks?

But I like the idea of an adult, professional gift.

Nice framing of diploma??

Credit for travel once that opens up again? I like the nice luggage idea if he cares/would appreciate that.

Does he have some type of leather folio that he could take on an interview?

Camera (if he likes photograph, vs just the iphone).

Engraced antique cufflinks.

Nice luggage set. You can filled one of the small pieces of luggage with things he can use in college. Snacks, cleaning supplies, etc.

This seems like such a waste.

Does your son have an activity, sport, or passion that he has participated in throughout high school? My DC has been very involved in theater since middle school and participated in several theater groups outside of school as well as the school productions every year. I made a photo book on Shutterfly of all of DC's shows, with photos, narration, etc. DC did A LOT of theater so it's about 70 pages long. I can't wait to give it to DC as I think it will be a memory that will last a lifetime.

Another idea is a personal quilt. My sister is a master seamstress and I sent her all of DC's T-shirts and some baby clothes. Everything from school and camp Tshirts to concert Tshirts. She is patching them all together in a quilt that DC will take to college. I believe there are companies that you can find on-line that can do this too.

I think these are more personalized and meaningful gifts that the kids will treasure.

My son is a the creative-type and always writing notes and working on ideas. I got him a very nice-refillable leather-bound journal.

If I can piggyback, also looking for ideas for a girl (kind of quirky, does not like jewelry, which is what I probably would have done).

New Luggage is a waste for college students. My kid lost a Briggs & Reilly suitcase

I reached out to my daughter’s friend group, teammates, a few special teachers and coaches, grandparents, close cousins, and DH and I and siblings. Asked them what words they’d use to describe DD and then made a “wordle” printed on canvas with all the words. I also then typed everyone’s statements and gave her that. She loved it!

Our two oldest daughters each received monogrammed towel sets from a dear friend. The towel sets were hands down their favorite gifts from a non-relative.

We gave the girls jewelry from their grandmothers and we gave the boys watches from their grandfathers.
