Too late for good summer nanny?

Anonymous
I finally decided to cave and find a nanny at least until fall when daycare and preschool may or may not reopen. I have an application from a kindergarten teacher who nannies every summer. This made me realize it’s the time of year when many kindergarten teachers may be starting summer nanny jobs. Have most of the good ones already found work by now? I’m looking at other candidates too of course but I like the idea of hiring a kindergarten teacher for the summer.

Do not hesitate! Jump at the chance to hire a teacher! Yeah, it’s late and you’re lucky to have found one. Offer her the position now.

Just remember that many teachers go back to work in mid-August. You will need to figure out childcare for the last two weeks of the summer, when they return for training and classroom prep.

Good to know, thanks!
Wait so this doesn’t mean that this one is the last to be “picked” and a bad sign she’s still looking?

NOt necessarily. She may just have decided to enter the market. You’ll know when you talk to her.

I’m a teacher in MCPS. I think you’ll see many teachers beginning to look for summer nanny jobs as it appears the usual summer employment may not happen. They haven’t started hiring, and some people are getting nervous about securing summer work and pay. Definitely doesn’t mean anything bad that she’s “still available”. She may have just decided

She might also have been waiting to see if the job she originally was supposed to work at for the summer was cancelled. My cousin is a teacher and she just found out her usual summer job isn’t happening.

I'm a teacher and just started looking by posting on Nextdoor and Facebook.

Not too late. If you find someone who seems great, go for it and don’t delay!
