A little background -
We have 2 young kids in car seats. We currently have a 2013 Camry and my beater 2003 Honda from my college days (Rhonda will live forever). We’re current in the process of buying a house and had planned to wait a couple years to upgrade my car. My sister is buying a car from my grandpa (he can no longer drive) and is offering to sell us her 2013 Ford Edge for $1500. It has 160,000 miles on it, no big known issues. Is there any reason why I shouldn’t do this? Anything specific we should do before buying it from her? I know very little about cars so any advice is appreciated. Thank you! |
That seems like a lot of miles for a Ford and the second anything goes wrong with it, and it will, you’ll blame her.
Take it to Carmax for a free appraisal. That will let you know if it is a good deal. How many miles on the Honda? If it is not many you are basically guessing which one will die first.
That ford won’t last long, but $1500 is a throw away price. If something happens, trash it. Keep the Honda.
160,000 on that car? No. Not even if they gave it to me. You’re in much better shape with the two you have now.
If it starts and runs without obvious signs of a problem, it is worth $1500. Expect to do some maintenance and replace it when there is an need for expensive repair.
