PACE remote groups

Anonymous
Any new moms planning on signing up for a PACE group? And from those who have done one in the past, would it still be worth it remotely? The cost is $350.

I’m in a group now and I really like it! Great women and good to talk about different topics with them.

I'm planning on doing it! Do you know when you can sign up? I checked in with them a few months ago and they said "hit us up when you have the baby," ha! That date is now fast-approaching; I'm wondering whether it's good to get ahead of it or whether they can place you in a group pretty quickly.

I loved it in person 4 years ago but don't think it would be at all worth that much money to do remotely, unless you have no other way to connect with new moms. My neighborhood listserv has a new mom's group, or you could find people on Nextdoor or though mutual friends for a lot cheaper.

+1

I LOVED it in person but I don't know how it would translate remotely.

Hi! Wanted to re-up this as it's been many months now that new moms groups would need to be online/virtual and I'd love some more feedback on if people have found them worthwhile. It looks like PACE hasn't changed its pricing even though it's all online, which kind of irritates me on principle, but I do think I'd appreciate some level of support post-baby arrival so curious to hear others' experiences. Thanks in advance!

I filled out the interest form for virtual PACE group and haven’t received a response I have been enjoying the virtual breastfeeding support groups the breastfeeding center is offering. https://www.breastfeedingcenter.org/classes they also have pre & postnatal stress groups.

I did PACE in person and when I filled out the form I got no response until it was pretty much time to join a group, then they sent me an email with a lot of information (Group A is in X location and has 4 spots and will start Y date, Group B is in XX location and will start YY date, etc. Decide by Friday, first come first served!). If it's the same for virtual groups and you're still pregnant you might not get a response for a while.

I did a virtual PACE group and I’ve loved it, despite its being virtual. I’ve met a few moms for outdoor, distanced walks with masks and all of us message, cheer, and support constantly via WhatsApp. Certainly not as good as long lunches and in person meetups, but it’s all I could ask for amid covid.

I’m really glad I did it too. The facilitators were fine but the best part was meeting the other new moms. It’s not perfect but it’ll do. And cost wise, it’s cheaper than therapy and about the same cost per session as a fancy gym class (which I can’t do either right now).

I did a virtual PACE group recently and the other moms are great but the facilitator did a poor job in my opinion. There were a few instances where she gave outright misinformation and I felt like she didn’t create a judgment-free space. The facilitator also spoke at great lengths about their own parenting experiences which were many years ago and didn’t translate that well to mothering in a global pandemic in 2020. At times the facilitator would state “PACE doesn’t use the word ‘should’ but you really might want to do X”, which I felt was contradictory and didn’t empower people to make their own decisions. Overall, the people I met have made the experience great but after sessions I was less confident in my parenting style due entirely to poor facilitation.

I agree with the poor facilitation. I also felt a bit out of place financially with so many moms in my group being quite wealthy When I did it a couple years back. I’m having a hard time deciding if I should do it again or try a different group. I just could not relate to some of the women who seemingly had so many supports I did not have in my postpartum time.

I didn’t end up joining a pace group, but I did seek out moms groups in my town which has been very helpful. Even if there isn’t one where you live, try getting on a parents listserve and starting your own! I just couldn’t stomach the money to sit on a zoom call.

Same, and I didn't have an area where I could speak/listen in private in my home for the 2 hours straight or however long the calls were which I felt like defeated the purpose of having a space away from DH (nothing against him) to talk about just "mom" issues. I was disappointed.

I’m the PP who wrote about not getting a response. You were correct—got an email today with 3 group options starting 8/27 and 9/1. Torn about it. I am feeling kind of isolated but $350 is a lot of money right now with hospital bill to pay & property taxes due.
