did you circumcise your son?

I'm not asking for a debate on circumcision...I'm not Jewish, so it won't be a religious decision. I don't need to be told the pros and cons of circumcism...

I'm just curious how many of the boys these days are circumcised. My DH is not, and he doesn't want to circumcise our son (due in a few months). When DH was growing up, most of the guys were circumcised, and he talks about how uncomfortable he felt at times...I'm not sure if I want my son to experience that growing up...

Yes, we did (DS is 5 months old). DH is and we wanted DS to look like Daddy. (Not smart enough to figure out how to answer the poll question!)

I'm 36 weeks and my DH (circumcised) and I both decided we will be circumcising our son. So, yes!

Yes. Although the doctor left a lot of skin behind. Not sure what the reason for this was, but we won't be going back to get the rest of the job done.

nope! we figured there are many ways our kids will look different from us, and from their friends, and so that wasn't a compelling argument for us. i think now in the US at least half of boys aren't circumcised? so i think as our boys grow up, they won't feel as different from their peers as our husbands might have. most of my friends don't circumcise their boys so ours would have been the weird one if we did it.

Yes, but we are Jewish so not sure if that counts.

Yes, but I am Jewish.

No no no! I can't even bear it. My best friend works in L&D and she said that it's a really sad and terrible thing to have to perform. That convinced us that it was worth having our son look different from dad.

Same here. I think it's a fairly new type of circ procedure and does leave much of the foreskin.

We did it. I researched it to death. Religion tipped the pretty much 50-50 split on whether I was going to do it or not.

No. DH wanted to, but I couldnt bear the thought of causing my sons pain for no reason. People trot out that *but they'll look different!* excuse. My answer is I'll teach my sons to ask *and just WHY are you so interested in my penis? Don't you have your own to play with?*

this is 15:04 again. we did not circumcise AND we are jewish we non-circumcising jews do exist!

I don't have a son yet. He's due in March, but the plan is to not circumcise.
Anonymous
NOPE. I think the practice is barbaric and so unnecessary.

Yes, we did have him circumcised, and no we aren't Jewish.

Does anyone have any references for stats in the percentage of boys who are now circumcised? I don't know the sex of these twins that are due any day. DH wants any boys to be circumcised, believing that most boys these days are (like a few decades ago) but I have told him that I think that things have changed - but I have no proof!
