I asked the question in another thread. Who are the local leaders approving of the delayed start of Phase 1? I didn’t see any board of supervisors’ vote. Well, apparently all are not on board. Some Loudoun County Supervisors are asking the governor to make exceptions for part of the county. I was wondering if this would happen once the governor did a 180 from his “all as one Commonwealth” message. I think they have a point and the same could be said for Fairfax and Loudoun counties.

It was in the Loudoun Times. It was the 3 western most people. Leesburg, Catoctin, and Blue Ridge.
So not partisan, but the standard east/west county divide. You know, the people who cause school to close when it’s raining in Sterling. |
| I found it interesting that the media portrayed "Northern Virginia" as asking for a delay. The letter sent to the governor was from a set of individuals. It was not sent on behalf of boards of supervisors. The mayor of Manassas said he was not even consulted. |
Same here. That was very fishy. On top of that, the delay doesn’t even make sense. People were still out and about last weekend and you know they’ll be out this weekend. Even yesterday evening, people were out. It’s not like the virus is going to just sit and die for another week or two if we halt reopening. This isn’t even making any sense anymore. We can crowd in a grocery store or a Walmart. Just open back up already. |
Agreed. Meanwhile, people from even other states drive by us on their way to the Virginia beaches, waving as we sit at Phase 0. |
| A reporter for the Washington Examiner, Susan Ferrechio, tweeted last night that Fairfax County Health Department had finally answered her request for nursing home deaths in Fairfax County. Of the 330 deaths in the county, 249 were in nursing homes/long term health care facilities. |
This goes to show that we need to quarantine nursing homes and their staff and not everyone else. Everyone else should wear masks and work from home if possible to reduce spread but a full shutdown isn’t necessary. |
She also included in her tweet that it is 75% of Fairfax County deaths. Another interesting stat from Fairfax County coronavirus dashboard: close to 64% of cases in Fairfax are Hispanic--and they are less than 17% of population. My guess: connection between nursing homes and their workers. Has Northam et. al. spent any time focusing on that connection? Why aren't they trying to fix the problem instead of keep everyone at home? |
There are way too many Hispanic resident cases in Fairfax County (assuming you can believe VDH stats) for it to be primarily from nursing home workers. The survival rate among Hispanic residents is high. In Fairfax County, over 60% of cases are Hispanic residents but less than 15% of the deaths. |
| Construction never closed down. |
Of course, it is not all health care workers, but the health care workers could very well be bringing it home to their spouses and families. Remember, many of these people are very poor and live in tight quarters. They also need the jobs and are less likely to stay home when sick. Construction workers are still working, but the spread is much more likely from healthcare facilities than open construction sites. The Health Departments should be focusing on this. I'm guessing they are now, but if they had started with the nursing homes and the workers, I think we would be better off now. Early on, when there were just a handful of people, Fairfax posted details. Among the first fourteen, they were almost all related to travel overseas. I remember reading about one of the nursing homes, and one of the early cases was related to a visit by someone who had been abroad. Once it gets in those places, it spreads: poor ventilation; low sunlight; frail people; and caretakers moving constantly among the patients. Also, three of four shifts of caretakers/day who are probably using public transportation and going home to tight quarters. |
Amen Sadly the news won’t report on this and tries to paint the deaths as a blanket total when it’s mainly just the nursing homes that are dying. I still have to order take out while my friends in Norfolk actually we’re living life like normal. We’re in the same state lol. |
Outdoors, mostly. Probably the many people in one home. |
100%. What we are doing is so stupid. |
