The narrative that certain women "prey" on men...

I see it come up over and over again in threads relating to Meghan Markle and Lauren Sanchez. Both women married men who are infinitely more wealthy and powerful than they are. Why does everyone think the men in this situation are victims? Why do they think they are being controlled by these women?

Yes, it's idiotic. I think it's motivated by some deep-seated jealousy, probably with some underlying racism and classism. The idea of Bezos being a victim is outright laughable. And if a poster talks about how Harry was "preyed on" by Markle, the immediate image I have is of a frothing, spitting Emily Giffen type, haggard with envy and rage.

I don’t see these men as victims at all. But, rather selfish (particularly Bezos) and willing participants. Harry will likely regret following his little head and abandoning his duties and family but Bezos engaged in an affair knowing the consequences.

Of course. It's an old trope. Think of all the outrage over "other women" and "mistresses" with only perfunctory outrage (if any) to the man who broke marriage vows. Also the trope of the hen-pecked husband, and the wife who "wears the pants' in the marriage.

Big difference between the two. Megan knew she was marrying the Firm and then had a baby and abandoned the Firm convincing Harry it was best. She has now isolated Harry and it’s very sad. Moving to LA was not his idea. Bezos just wanted something new and sparkly for his ego...Lauren just happened to be it.

This. The black or Latina woman as seductress. There's been stuff written historically re: stereotypes about their hypersexuality, including the Jezebel, tragic mulatta, fiery Latina, etc. Maybe not consciously, but I think it bleeds over into how we discuss these women today.

I know a woman who is an extremely attractive 45 year old woman.

She does not have college and has always worked low pay jobs. She has no moral qualms about "throwing herself" on men at work or men in the community that are married.

I've never known a woman with virtually no morals like this.
I think she sees the married man as a financial step up.

She has "dated" a married Maryland delegate who has a young family. She also "dated" a married family man on a government job. After the married government family man dumped her she is now suing her government employer for several million over sexual harrassment.

This is my ex sil and I'm sure many like her. Never wanted a career which is fine, but she is selfish not caring who she hurts. She always does well but started calling a married ex from college when her support check was ending. And other income payouts from the previous marriage. She is very pretty until you really get to know her. Ugly on the inside, and I'm sure her husband is miserable. His 3 kids have little to do with him. Hers don't have many good things to say about her. A common result of bad choices by horrible people.

Megan's family like them or was right about her. The way she broke up with her ex was also telling about her. This relationship won't last.

Because she did. He said that camera clicks remind him of his mom but then she moves him to Hollywood. Not some remote cabin. She loves the limelight and exploits his issues from being in that family. I’m latin. It’s nothing to do with how she’s presented.

Lauren Sanchez is different. They seem the same but not. She’s didn’t necessarily prey on him. She was willing to do him and he went for him. He was married. Harry was not. He was very protected and had no experience with opportunistic and selfish people with charm. The family she’s never had-oh wait that’s the camera clicks that are torture for your spouse.

Exactly. Harry is just not some passive victim here, and it's totally bizarre that people like PP have such a desperate need to cast him as such. Same with Bezos. The idea that either of them are these innocent victims of conniving women is laughable.
